Injury News And Analysis
There’s not that much going on with the injury front with the playoffs going on. With that, this will be the final Injury News and Analysis until a few weeks before the start of spring training. For injury news that come up between now and then, check out my site for a case by case review.
Carl Crawford has returned from his finger injury to hit in the ALDS and hasn’t had too much success. This is to be somewhat expected because of the quality of pitching. It’s hard to really tell how much if any the finger is bothering him, but it definitely feels good enough for him to start each of the post-season games.
Mariano Rivera had surgery on his shoulder and is essentially one of the least concerning procedures for a pitcher to have. Basically they went in and shaved/removed a very small portion of the clavicle which was helping to cause the pain in the shoulder. By removing this, they are expanding the area in the joint for the soft tissue structures such as the rotator cuff and biceps tendon to pass through. It’s a relatively short rehab for pitchers, allowing them to throw in roughly 3 months so he should be completely healthy for the start of next season.
Mike Lowell not only has a torn labrum in his hip but he also has a strained hip. Because of that he was taken off the ALDS roster and he won’t be ready to play for the ALCS. There is a chance he’ll be ready for the World Series but in all honesty, I have no idea how effective he will be. Hip Strains tend to linger and when you have an underlying issue, it makes it even harder to come back from. The roster you see in the ALCS for the Sox may be the one you see in the World Series.
Thanks for every single on my readers and I can’t wait to see how this post-season plays out.
