Rotoprofessor.com: Draft Strategies

It is our weekly look into the mind of Eric Stashin over at rotoprofessor.com. I know, that is a scary thought. This week Eric graces us with a strategy question in his weekly blog. Do you draft by experience, or do you look for upside and potential? I believe there is a very fine line between the perfect mix of youth and experience and either a team…

Rotoprofessor.com: Will Kershaw be 2009s Lincecum?

Another in a line of baseball articles from our friend at rotoprofessor.com, Eric Stashin is continuing to put out great baseball info along with a some football stuff. For those who are new to Fighting Chance, Eric and I did a great (yet short lived) radio show together on blogtalkradio.com in which I often got the better of him in debates (that last part might not be true)…

High Fives: Free Agents, Injuries, News Items

As we approach the final days of the fantasy season, here are some players that might still be available that can help you.
1. Pablo Sandoval, San Francisco Giants. I didn’t get too excited about this guy when the Giants called him up, but he has hit nearly .340 since coming up with a few homers and 15 RBI. He should be catcher eligible, which could help, especially…

What makes an elite pitcher so good using Pitch FX.

I have a new article that examines this very topic over at Fantasy Baseball Strategy and I found a few interesting differences.

  1. The first one may not be that surprising but elite pitchers have a higher avereage velocity than other groups of pitchers which carries over to the off-speed and breaking pitches as well.
  2. The movement on the elite pitches are greater, in some case much greater, movement

Second Half Players to Watch

Every year there’s a select group of players that have a great second half. These are the players that can be the difference between you winning your league or finishing in the middle of the pack and having to listen to “Johnny I Didn’t Even Watch a Game” brag about how he beat you.

Some players tend to warm up when the weather does, and others had such poor first half’s…

Notes From A Slugfest: Rockies vs. Marlins

In perhaps the highest scoring game I have ever seen, the Rockies edged the Marlins 18-17. Some things to take away from this game:

  • Matt Holliday connected on two homers (one a grand slam) to bring his season total to 12. I am expecting a big second half for Holliday.
  • Chris Iannetta continues to solidify himself as the Rockies leading catcher

Fantasy Baseball All Over-Rated Team

Their are two basic ways that a player becomes over valued in fantasy baseball. The first is living off of their old glory. These are the players that became household names after years of great seasons, or superb individual performances under the brightest lights. However, the glory days are behind them, and the numbers no longer live up to the expectations. Think Mike Piazza or Juan…

The last time I wrote to you in my beyond the boxscore post, I featured some post-hype prospects. Now is an important time in your league to start making your move to the top of the standings and their is no better way than grabbing a player who’s value is lower than his production will be.
