Injury News And Analysis

There’s not that much going on with the injury front with the playoffs going on.  With that, this will be the final Injury News and Analysis until a few weeks before the start of spring training.  For injury news that come up between now and then, check out my site for a case by case review.

Carl Crawford has returned from his finger injury to hit in the ALDS…

Injury News and Analysis - September 24th 2008

Well this is likely going to be the final twice weekly post for the injury news and analysis since the regular season will be wrapping up.  I will definitely be posting important news throughout the post-season and off-season as it comes up regarding injuries.  This year we have seen an increase in the number of injuries but it seems a lot worse based on who it effected.  I’d like to thank…

Injury News and Analysis - September 21st

Evan Longoria

Well 3 HR in one game answered any questions about his wrist/forearm strength.  It’s safe to assume that he is fully healthy from the fractured tip of the ulna.  Technically this is different from a fractured wrist and it actually has responded differently as well despite being in the same general area.  Everyone in Tampa has to be very relieved that there appears to be no long term damage.

Ben…

Erik Bedard

He’ll undergo exploratory arthroscopic surgery by Dr. Lewis Yocum (a true leader in the field) next week to figure out exactly what’s going on.  Surgeons generally only do this procedure when the exam doesn’t match up with the diagnostic tests like MRI’s and CT scans.  That’s not a good sign because something causes pain, even if it’s only due to his own mental makings.  He’s been diagnosed with impingement…

Brandon Phillips

Broken index fingers will take at least 4-6 weeks to heal usually and that means the end of the season for most athletes at this point. Phillips broke his right index finger in a bunt attempt earlier this week and the Reds put him on the 60-day DL in order to clear up a roster spot. Most likely it shouldn’t effect him long term but he already…

Albert Pujols

Pujols is considering having Tommy John, but is going to wait to decide until after the post-season. While the rehab would only be about 6-8 months as a positional player that still put spring training and some of the season in jeopardy.   He admits that he doesn’t want to really wait for a couple more years so there is a strong possibility that he will get…

Carlos Quentin

Surprise surprise, it’s not the forearm it’s the wrist. This is just another reason why we cannot always believe what the team tells us regarding an injuries health. He’s going to have a screw inserted into the wrist in order to help facilitate healing. While I am not 100% suggesting this is the case, often surgical fixation is needed for scaphoid fractures. The scaphoid bone…

Injury News and Analysis September 3rd

Frank Thomas

Quad problems for very large DHs are not good. Especially one who has had several injuries in the past. Thomas has been transferred to the 60-Day DL, officially ending his season today. He still has the bat to be productive when healthy, but that’s the problem. He’s now (or maybe has been in for a while) in the group of Milton Bradley and Chipper Jones…

Chipper Jones

After my article on my site Fantasy Baseball Strategy described how many athletes hide injuries, Chipper is being reported to have several nagging injuries, including Quad, Hamstring, and elbow problems.  He is an example of an athlete who at times may be too tough for his own good.  Most likely his current elbow problem is related to all of his other problems and likely will not go…

Injury News and Analysis August 28th

Sorry for the delay.  Double sessions on top of a real bad commute set me back big time and I couldn’t get an update.  I apologize for that and I’m here for today’s instead.

Rick Ankiel

An abdominal strain/problem is just as bothersome for a hitter as it it for a pitcher.  It effects your bat control and it effects your power.   He’s being examined by other doctors and I’m sure they…
