Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 7/23/08

Jorge Posada has decided to postpone the surgery that would fix his injured shoulder until the offseason, instead he is going to try to rehab so that he can still help the Yankees in ‘08 as a DH.  I can’t say that I agree with this decision for a couple of reasons.  One, the Yankees already have three or four guys who are…

Jake PeavyToday marked the triumphant return to the mound for fantasy ace Jake Peavy, and boy he didn’t disappoint those of us who have been waiting (especially me and Martha). Peavy pitched shutout ball for six innings and struck out four, allowed just three hits and didn’t walk a batter. If there was any concern about Peavy coming back healthy and pitching…

Reds’ rookie Jay Bruce had quite the major league debut for himself. Bruce went 3-3 with two walks and a stolen base. The same thing applies to Bruce that I said about Kershaw the other day. There’s not much more to say about Bruce. If he is available, go get him right away, he should have a major fantasy impact in 2008.

I have been avoiding writing about Eric Hinske…

The next young arm that is going to be added in a lot of fantasy leagues in the next 24 hours is going to be the Marlins’ Andrew Miller. Miller was one of the two big pieces that the Marlins got back in the Miguel Cabrera trade, but he got off to a terrible start. This is the fourth…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 5/15/08 Unexpected Hitting and Starting Pitchers Notes

Most of the news tonight involves starting pitching, but we do have a segment of unexpected hitters.

For the first time since April 19th, Andruw Jones hit a home run. I know a lot of us had reservations about Mr. Jones coming into the season because of the way he struggled last year, but I never thought he would fall…

Jason Isringhausen has been removed as the Cardinals closer. At his own admission, he has been horrible of late, and he doesn’t want the ball in the ninth inning until he can get those issues straightened out. Manager Tony LaRussa said that Ryan Franklin and Russ Springer would get the save opportunities. Saturday night the save went to Franklin as he pitched a one hit ninth inning. It is…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 5/4/08 Injury Notes, Travis Hafner, Pitching Performances

Curtis Granderson is destroying the ball since his return from the DL. Granderson hit his 5th homer in just his 11th game back healthy. He is hitting .317 and also stole his first base of the season. Most impressive so far from Granderson is that he has walked nine times, while striking out just six. This is a marked…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 4/28/08 Minor League Callups, Yankee injury news, more

There were only a handlful of games last night, and one was rained out so not a ton to report on.

The shoulder injury to Yankees catcher Jorge Posada now looks like it is worse than was originally feared. After trying to tough it out for a week Posada finally hit the DL on Monday. Worse news than that is that is he scheduled to meet with Dr James…

Down on the Farm–Top Pitching Prospects Minor League Statistics

Max Scherzer, Arizona Diamondbacks

Scherzer was called up to the big leagues today, although it is not certain in what capacity he will serve. He might get a start if Micah Owings’ injured ankle makes him unable to go, but nothing has been announced yet. If Scherzer has a spot in the Arizona rotation, grab him up.
