Injury News and Analysis August 13

Evan Longoria

An amazing first year might come to a close a little early due to a wrist fracture he suffered on last Thursday night when he was hit by a pitch.   Bones usually take between 4-8 weeks to heal depending on the location, severity, and type of break.  The fact that it is in his wrist makes it a little more complicated due to the nature of the sport.  This…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 7/31/08; Trade Deadline Edition

OK, it’s trade deadline day, let’s take a look at the ramifications of some of the trades before we get into tonight’s action.

Ken Griffey Jr was traded to the White Sox for minor leaguer Danny Richar and middle reliever Nick Masset.  Masset hasn’t been anything worth talking about this season in relief for the Sox.  He is 1-0 with a 4.63 ERA and…

Ethier Homers For Second Straight Day

With the imminent return of Andruw Jones, Andre Ethier is making a case for himself to continue to get every day at bats in the Dodgers’ outfield. Ethier has four hits in the past two games, including two homers, to bring his total for the season to nine.

He shouldn’t have to worry about playing time right away after the injury to Juan Pierre, but if he can remain consistent…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 6/30/08

With Andruw Jones on a rehab assignment, the Dodgers’ outfield looks like it might become a headache for fantasy owners again. With Juan Pierre playing well, together with young stars Andre Eithier and Matt Kemp, there are one more good players than there are positions to play. With Jones and Pierre signed to big contracts, it looks like it will come down…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 5/15/08 Unexpected Hitting and Starting Pitchers Notes

Most of the news tonight involves starting pitching, but we do have a segment of unexpected hitters.

For the first time since April 19th, Andruw Jones hit a home run. I know a lot of us had reservations about Mr. Jones coming into the season because of the way he struggled last year, but I never thought he would fall…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 5/2/08

The Reds had two rookie starters going into this season, and it looks like the one with less hype will make the bigger fantasy impact this year. While Johnny Cueto has begun to struggle some now, Edinson Volquez is not. He will take the loss tonight, but it wasn’t all his fault. He was the victim of a horrible drop in the outfield by Corey Patterson (I’m talking right…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 4/29/08 Injury Notes, Pitching Good and Bad, Sell High

Roy Halladay has got a lot to complain about. He has now gone the distance in four consecutive starts, and his record during this time? 1-3. Granted, they weren’t your traditional complete games (he gave up four runs in one, and five in another), but when your pitcher goes all the way, you gotta score enough runs to get…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 4/20/08 Hochevar, Big Papi, Dodgers Outfield, Injury Report, and more

Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez left the game today with a quadricps injury. He said he felt it in his swing, and then as he ran down the baseline, he felt a “twinge.” Rodriguez has been an incredibly durable player throughout his career, so it is tough to gauge how long this might keep him out of action…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 4/19/08; Hochevar, Greinke, Lincecum, Cueto, more

The player who has created the biggest buzz so far this year in fantasy baseball has been Johnny Cueto, and so far he hasn’t disappointed. His owners had to be very curious how he would do after giving up five runs in his previous start. Would he bounce back? Or was he doomed to start to struggle like most pitchers in his situation? Cueto answered today with another great…
