Beyond the Boxscore - News and Notes 7/9/08

Carlos PenaCarlos Pena is continuing to turn around his horrible start of the season. Pena connected on his 14th homer today at Yankee Stadium, and it was his third in the past six games. He has also driven in nine runs in that span and raised his average ten points. He obviously can’t reach last year’s career stats, but he…

Injury News July 2nd

With the onslaught of injury news the past several days, I’ve had to limit my analysis to the top ones that I expect will have ramifications for your fantasy team. If you like these and would like to see what else I do other than injury analysis, please check out Fantasy Baseball Strategy.

Dan Uggla

Uggla has said that he probably won’t return until Thursday July…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 6/30/08

With Andruw Jones on a rehab assignment, the Dodgers’ outfield looks like it might become a headache for fantasy owners again. With Juan Pierre playing well, together with young stars Andre Eithier and Matt Kemp, there are one more good players than there are positions to play. With Jones and Pierre signed to big contracts, it looks like it will come down…

The Arizona Diamondbacks welcomed back Eric Byrnes to their lineup tonight after missing almost a month with tears in both hamstrings. Unfortunately for them, he picked up where he left off, and took an 0-5 tonight against the Red Sox and Josh Beckett. I fully expect Byrnes to turn his horrible season around and be a productive fantasy player for the rest of the season. Not sure…

A quick congratulations to the Red Sox Manny Ramirez who connected on the 500th home run of his career tonight against the Orioles. For many years Manny was one of the most feared run producers in baseball. As far as fantasy baseball is concerned, Manny’s best days are behind him, but he is…

Reds’ rookie Jay Bruce had quite the major league debut for himself. Bruce went 3-3 with two walks and a stolen base. The same thing applies to Bruce that I said about Kershaw the other day. There’s not much more to say about Bruce. If he is available, go get him right away, he should have a major fantasy impact in 2008.

I have been avoiding writing about Eric Hinske…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 5/25/08 Kershaw, Verlander, Byrnes, Cabrera and more

Today, the big time prospect did not disappoint. Clayton Kershaw was as good as advertised on Sunday as he had his way with many of the St. Louis Cardinals. Kershaw went six innings, allowed two runs and struck out seven. There’s not too much else to say, if you were debating on using your waiver priority on him, this should seal the deal. Pick him up in all formats.

It…

Today was the seventh consecutive start for Jacoby Ellsbury for the Boston Red Sox. He has brought a spark to the Sox offense, and stole two bases for the second consecutive day, and now has eight on the season. Ellsbury came into the season as someone that I expected to make a big fantasy impact (especially on the basepaths), and this recent outburst shows what he is capable of…
