Injury News and Analysis - September 21st

Evan Longoria

Well 3 HR in one game answered any questions about his wrist/forearm strength.  It’s safe to assume that he is fully healthy from the fractured tip of the ulna.  Technically this is different from a fractured wrist and it actually has responded differently as well despite being in the same general area.  Everyone in Tampa has to be very relieved that there appears to be no long term damage.

Ben…

Injury News and Analysis - September 17th

Erik Bedard

He’ll undergo exploratory arthroscopic surgery by Dr. Lewis Yocum (a true leader in the field) next week to figure out exactly what’s going on.  Surgeons generally only do this procedure when the exam doesn’t match up with the diagnostic tests like MRI’s and CT scans.  That’s not a good sign because something causes pain, even if it’s only due to his own mental makings.  He’s been diagnosed with impingement…

Injury News and Analysis August 20th

Erik Bedard

Well all those hopes and dreams of him coming back this year now seem to be lost as his scheduled mound session was canceled today. It’s now been over a month on the DL and he hasn’t been able to throw off the mound as he tries to return from impingement. Given that the Mariners do at least have a little invested in him it would be extremely wise…

It’s that time…

Injury wise any ligament tear or fracture has the possibility to end someone’s season. With the season over in a little over 6 weeks, it’s crunch time.

Carl Crawford

He felt a pop in his hand during his last at bat which to me isn’t good considering they put him on the DL right away basically.  During a swing there is an incredible amount of…

Injury News and Analysis July 27th

Dustin McGowan

Dustin will undergo surgery on his shoulder this Thursday to repair his labrum and possibly his rotator cuff. Fraying of the labrum usually isn’t too severe a problem unless the fraying progressed into a labral tear or if there is a rotator cuff repair as well. He is obviously done for the year and depending on the damage inside his shoulder could extend well into next year…

Erik Bedard Injury Explanation

I have an in-depth analysis of Erik Bedard’s injury situation over at Fantasy Baseball Strategy.  Being diagnosed with internal impingement is not a long term problem but it’s never a quick fix.  He needs to focus on strengthening his muscles around the shoulder and shoulder blade and minimize trying to pitch through discomfort.  This is really the only way to “solve” the problem without going into…

Injury News and Analysis July 23rd

Kerry Wood

Wood developed a blister on his right index finger prior to the All-Star break that didn’t heal up so some reports say he’s heading for the DL and others say he can avoid it. Blisters are more than a nuisance to a pitcher if he tries to pitch through it because it almost always ends up in some mechanical changes as the athlete is subconsciously avoiding the…

Trade Winds

We are still about two weeks from the trade deadline, but two more trades happened tonight. Let’s start with Jon Rauch for top infield prospect Emilio Bonifacio. Rauch has filled in very nicely in Washington while Chad Cordero has been out. It doesn’t look like Rauch will be closing in Arizona when he first gets there, however if Brandon Lyon continues to…

Injury News and Analysis July 20th

There is a long list of injuries to go over so let’s head right to it.

David Ortiz

Ortiz has taken great strides in his rehab stint and is hitting the ball to all fields with authority and even checking his swing without problems. I wrote a small piece on this over at RotoSavants (where I also write along with my main site…

Injury News and Analysis July 13th

It’s been long weekend in which I had family visiting and I got screwed out of close to $1,000 at the horse track yesterday. I had a pick 4 going and on the 3rd horse, initially I was a winner. Then there was an inquiry and wouldn’t you know it, I lost the inquiry. Of course, the I picked the winner of the 4th race. So bye bye almost…
