What makes an elite pitcher so good using Pitch FX.

I have a new article that examines this very topic over at Fantasy Baseball Strategy and I found a few interesting differences.

  1. The first one may not be that surprising but elite pitchers have a higher avereage velocity than other groups of pitchers which carries over to the off-speed and breaking pitches as well.
  2. The movement on the elite pitches are greater, in some case much greater, movement

Injury news and Analysis July 9th

Not quite as many injuries as everyone is starting to take a real look at their team and determine whether or not they’re going to go for it this year. We’re also nearing the point where any surgery will take up most of the second half and therefore if a new injury pops up and requires surgery, serious thoughts must be given as to whether or not to drop…

Good Injury News 7/5

White Sox closer Bobby Jenks underwent a battery of tests for his sore left shoulder and everything came back negative.  Jenks hopes to be back available for closing by this Tuesday.

Felix Hernandez is still on the disabled list, but according to reports will definitely be ready to go when he is eligible to return.  No definite date for his next start has been announced, but he is eligible to return…

Injury News & Analysis - June 25, 2008

There has been a ton of injury news so I’ll just get right to it about the ones that would affect those in fantasy baseball.

Ian Snell

Ian Snell has been diagnosed with Medial Epicondylitis in his right elbow but according to the MRI the ligaments were read as normal. He was listed as day to day. While I do not doubt the diagnosis at this time, I’d be worried…

The Arizona Diamondbacks welcomed back Eric Byrnes to their lineup tonight after missing almost a month with tears in both hamstrings. Unfortunately for them, he picked up where he left off, and took an 0-5 tonight against the Red Sox and Josh Beckett. I fully expect Byrnes to turn his horrible season around and be a productive fantasy player for the rest of the season. Not sure…

Felix Hernandez might be starting to live up to his nickname of King Felix. It is way to early to make that kind of statement, but the 22-year old Hernandez has put a couple of good starts together. With his six-inning effort tonight, that is two straight outings in which he didn’t allow a run. I get…

A quick congratulations to the Red Sox Manny Ramirez who connected on the 500th home run of his career tonight against the Orioles. For many years Manny was one of the most feared run producers in baseball. As far as fantasy baseball is concerned, Manny’s best days are behind him, but he is…

Beyond the Boxscore–Fantasy MLB News and Notes 5/23/08

The majority of the news tonight revolves around starting pitching, so let’s just get the hitting out of the way quickly.

Rangers’ catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit his second homer of the season, and he made it count. Salty went Grand Salami, and although he is hitting just over .220, he is certainly an option for those of you suffering with a crappy option at catcher. He is young, he…
