The DFS Drive: Week 15
As we approach the end of the regular season, we now add two Saturday games to the mix which removes 10 teams from Sunday’s main slate. With the Chargers, Chiefs, Rams and Saints all not on the main slate, we are going to have to dig a little deeper and look to guys we have not been targeting in the past. This week I am going to focus on the wide receivers in hopes we can find that hidden gem that will put some extra cash in our pockets for the Holiday season.
Adam Thielen vs. Miami Dolphins
$8,600 DraftKings / $8,200 FanDuel
Thielen’s production has really taken a nose dive over the past five weeks as he has only eclipsed the 100 yard mark once. However, during that time, he has averaged nine targets a game. He squares off against a Miami secondary who is ranked 17th and have allowed 13.5 catches and 181.5 receiving yards over their past four weeks. Minnesota is in disarray, firing their offensive coordinator, and may look to lean on the run a little more this week but Thielen will still get his looks. Thielen is my favorite high priced wide receiver this week as Kirk Cousins should pepper the heck out of him.
JuJu Smith-Schuster vs. New England Patriots
$8,000 DraftKings / $7,800 FanDuel
Quietly, Smith-Schuster has put together a fine season thus far ranking in the top six in both receptions and yards. You can argue he has been even stronger as of late as he has averaged nearly nine catches and 118 yards over the past four games. His teammate, Antonio Brown, will more than likely be shadowed by Stephon Gilmore which could result in more looks in JuJu’s direction. The Patriots’ game plan tends take the opponents best weapon which could result in a deadly combination between Smith-Schuster and Ben Roethlisberger this week.
Pittsburgh will need some big plays to stay in the game as road underdogs and I am looking forward to see what JuJu’s touchdown celebration will be this week.
Tyler Boyd vs. Oakland Raiders
$5,700 Draft Kings / $6,700 FanDuel
Boyd is more of a DraftKings play for me this week as I like the options around him better on FanDuel such as Amari Cooper. Like Thielen, Boyd has come down to earth after a hot start, but is in a good position against the Raiders who are ranked 19th against opposing wide receivers this year. In home games, Boyd has had four of his five highest scoring fantasy scoring outputs this season while the Raiders give wide receivers a 31% fantasy point scoring bump on the road. For the season, he is converting 70% of his targets into catches, so if the Bengals can get him some looks he should be able to exceed value at his DraftKings price.
Larry Fitzgerald at Atlanta Falcons
$4,700 Draft Kings / $6,000 FanDuel
Atlanta has been brutal on defense this year to all opposing offensive positions. The Falcons rank 26th against wide outs allowing 19 targets and 12 receptions on the season and Fitzgerald is still one of the best possession receivers in the league. Yes, the Cardinals offense is also brutal but if they can manage to move the ball on Sunday, Fitzgerald will have to be involved. Down Christian Kirk and possibly Chad Williams, Arizona’s receiving core is depleted to say the least. Fitzgerald also gets a huge bump as his fantasy point’s increase by 45.5% in dome games. It’s been hard to plug in any Cardinals player this year but if he is going to have a good game, this would be the week to do so.
Value Plays – Tournament Options
DeDe Westbrook vs. Washington Redskins
$4,500 Draft Kings / $5,400 FanDuel
Coming off of a seven catch, 88 yard and one touchdown performance on Thursday night, Westbrook draws a favorable matchup against the Redskins’ Greg Stroman. The stats do not pop off the page for DeDe this year as he is averaging only 12 yards a catch, but ranks tied for seventh in the league with 3.5 yards of separation off of the defender. I’m banking on him creating space against the Washington secondary which has been struggling all season.
John Ross vs. Oakland Raiders
$4,000 Draft Kings / $5,600 FanDuel
Yes, this is the second Cincinnati receiver I am talking about this week so that gives you an idea of what we are dealing with on the main slate. Ross has been a roller coaster all season, but it seems like all his good games have come when AJ Green has been out of the lineup. That’s because it is true. In the games where Ross was active and Green was inactive, Ross has reached the end zone in each one of them. He is seeing a slight uptick in targets during those games and with Green no longer in the picture, I will take my chances with Ross reaching the end zone again in Week 15.
Michael Gallup at Indianapolis Colts
$3,600 Draft Kings / $5,300 FanDuel
Since the arrival of Amari Cooper, it seems like it has also been the arrival of the Cowboys third round pick. Gallup has seen an increase over the past four contests in targets (nearly seven a game) and has also seen his snap count rise from 52 in Week 13 to 77 last week. He has also turned into the Cowboys deep threat as of late ranking 11th in the league in average targeted air yards at 14.6. Gallop is another value tournament option that has touchdown potential which will allow you to pay up in other spots.
