Player Props: Week 5

What’s the old saying? I went to the well once too often. I did OK on my over/under suggestions last week (3-1) but unfortunately, I lost both of my anytime TD suggestions. For the season that makes me 7-4 (.636 winning percentage). Let’s see if I can improve that record with my five favorite player props for Week 5.

Please remember that gambling is super risky and you should only use funds that you can afford to lose.

Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE, Tennessee Titans
Over 26.5 receiving yards

Not much has gone right for the Titans’ pass offense but Okonkwo is averaging a modest 3.25 catches per game and even though he only had four receiving yards in Week 4, he’s still averaging 31 this season. Okonkwo takes on the Arizona Cardinals who are giving up an average of 64 receiving yards to TEs, including 44 to Seattle Seahawks TE Elijah Arroyo. Chig should easily eclipse 26.5 receiving yards in Week 5.

Darren Waller, TE, Miami Dolphins
Over 2.5 receptions

I’m going to stick with the tight end position. I love the way Waller woke up Monday morning after a year-long retirement and being inactive due to injury for the first three weeks of the season and still managed to light up the New York Jets. The Dolphins are down a receiver with Tyreek Hill out for the season and according to Waller, we’re going to see “a jump” in his snaps played in Week 5. That’s great news because his Week 5 opponent, the Carolina Panthers, are giving up an average of 5.25 catches and 71.25 receiving yards to TEs this season. I’m taking the over 2.5 catches prop but his over 32.5 receiving yards prop looks very enticing as well.

Alvin Kamara, RB, New Orleans Saints
Over 51.5 rushing yards

A lot has been said about Saints RB Kendre Miller’s playing time increasing this season but Kamara is still playing an average of 78% of the Saints’ offensive snaps this season. Kamara may be a 30-year-old running back but he’s still got some tread left on the tires and he has a very nice matchup against my New York Giants this week. Kamara is always a threat to catch passes out of the backfield but with the Giants giving up an average of just over six yards per carry, even if he only carries the ball six times he’ll have over 51.5 rushing yards.

Garrett Wilson, WR, New York Jets
Over 5.5 receptions

This suggestion is based on simple logic so I’ll keep it short. Sure, 5.5 receptions is a big number but Wilson has at least six catches in three of his four games this season. Also, he’s taking on the Dallas Cowboys this week, and their pass defense is the worst in football, by far.

Rachaad White, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Over 3.5 receptions

With Bucky Irving ruled out for Week 5, White will obviously have a larger role in Week 5, but so will Sean Tucker. I’m not sure how carries will be divided. The Bucs might use a hot hand approach, but if it were my decision I’d use Tucker as my early down back and White as my passing down back. Now that I’ve put that suggestion out there, I’ll take the over 3.5 reception prop for White this week. With 165 receptions in his first three seasons, catching the ball out of the backfield has kind of been White’s “thing”. I expect it to continue in Week 5.
